A Nice Little Friday

So I took Schmoopie to the Guthrie last Friday to watch, listen and appreciate the talented Andrew Bird. There's not a lot to say except that it was a great show, in a great theatre (made even better by my 4th row center seats), on a very cold night. We got to Cue for drink at about 7:30. I had checked Mr. Bird's myspace that day and it said the show started at 8. Never trust myspace. I looked at my ticket after we had just got our drinks. What did the ticket say you ask? That the show starts at 7:30! Of course I went into panic mode and slammed my Surly, and then helped schmoopie down her red wine, all in about 12 minutes. Needless to say I was a little buzzed by 8.

We missed a song or two, but it was all good, except I had to pee something fierce the whole last 45 minutes of the show. Good thing I have a bladder made of steel and the will power to hold my urine for 3 days if needed.

Then the show ended, we went home. The end.

Click here to watch an Andrew Bird performance. I'm fascinated with his ability to loop on stage. And notice the socks, he only wears socks on stage. The hipster girls love that eccentricity.

Was Bob Dylan a prick or what?

So I'm sitting at laptop on a Friday night (I'm pathetic, I know, but I'm planning a big Saturday night) scouring this great site I found since Oink was blown up this fall. Since I was waiting for schmoopie to arrive, it was ok for me to watch a Bob Dylan documentary before she got there. I decided to watch Don't Look Back on that M5 channel in HD. The movie documents Bob Dylan on a UK tour in the 60's.
I don't think he smiled once. Now, I love Bob Dylan's music, specifically his early stuff, but he's a huge grouch in this film, watch this clip for evidence.

He strikes out at reporters more than once in this film. I knew he could be abrasive, but this strikes me as really annoying too. Anyway, I still like his music, but maybe not as much. Is that stupid?

Genius Video

I love college football.
I love it when girls fight.
I love it when other people use the word poon, whether it relates to the female anatomy or the movie Fletch.
This video I found on a blog called Mac G's Wolrd
fits perfectly with the statements above.

What a work of art. From the music to the captioning.....Wow......... just Wow.

Restaurant Madness and bamBOOZling

The other day schmoopie and I were looking through her receipts and account statement to balance her check book. When we were done, we found 3 instances where a restaurant/bar charged her more than she siged off for on her debit card receipt. Of course, the differences in the numbers were insignificant like 27 or 59 cents. The shitty, lying, worthless server probably did this so A) I didn't go screaming mad into some restaurant, leaving some little U of M sophomore hostess crying to her helicopter parents, or B) they were hoping we didn't notice.

This must be a common thing, if it happened to us 3 times in a month right? What the hell? I thought most people were honest. And don't even start on about us leaving terrible tips; we never tip less thatn 15% and rarely less than 20%. Should we take some recourse? I've heard that if you confront them on it they are required to put a sign up saying they have been guilty of this charge. Is that even worth it? To make it even worse, one of the bars, Maxwell's on Washington Avenue, is a place where schmoopie spends a lot of money due to the close proximity to her office. Her and her friends have probably spent $5,000 there the last 3 or 4 years. This is how they treat their loyal regulars? For full disclosure, the other places were Elsies in Northeast (the bowling place) and Cafe Ena in South Minneapolis. Anyway, watch for these renegade restauarant workers. I'll report back after our next audit.

Picture Post

The other day I went for jog on my usual route down Minnehaha Creek towards Lake Harriet. About a half mile around the lake I looked up and saw a bald eagle. That got me thinking, how lucky am I to live in Minneapolis? You just don't see eagles in metropolitan cities very often.
So, let me count the ways...

Four things I like about living in Minneapolis:

1. All the shows that I can go to any night of the week (this is Kings of Leon at First Ave)

Waterama is only a two hour drive-

This is where I run, 1 minute walk from my apartment in Minneapolis

I like seasons, and foliage

And the One Thing I Really Dont Like: Slush- This shot was defintely taken in February, the worst month of all time in Minnesota.

I Made It

After months of anticipation from one person, I am finally ready to make the leap towards being a typical, mnspeak-reading Minneapolis blogger. This blog will mostly be me complaining about things, so pretty much it will be exactly like most other blogs you read. Anyway, my significant other (schmoopie) will hate that I do this, but my hope is that a couple friends get a few laughs here and there. Anyway, to start things off, I would like to link to my favorite blog post of all time.
